Personality[]
Given his willingness to deliver letters from strangers, Daniel appears to be a friendly boy eager to help others. Story[]
Shortly before Ophilia arrives in Goldshore to perform the Kindling at the city's cathedral, Daniel receives a letter from a stranger to the city. Following the stranger's instructions, he delivers the letter to Bishop Donovan, only to witness the dismay that strikes the bishop immediately afterward. Donovan fails to perform the preparations necessary for the Kindling, and Ophilia traces his distress to the mysterious letter.
Daniel flees from the Goldshore Cathedral into the city's manor district, terrified that Ophilia will accuse him of causing the bishop's distraction. When Ophilia corners the boy, she appeals to his sense of guilt and asks him to return with her to the cathedral so that he can apologize to the bishop. Despite his nervousness, Daniel accepts her guidance.
In the cathedral, Bishop Donovan reveals the contents of the letter. The message is in fact a ransom note, declaring that the bishop's daughter, Lysa, has been kidnapped. If Donovan wishes to see her again, the letter demands that he seize Ophilia's sacred ember and bring it to a cavern by the sea.
Armed with this knowledge, Ophilia heads to the Seaside Grotto and saves Lysa from the kidnappers' clutches. Daniel is freed from his burden of guilt and freed to play on the beach with her, Ellen, and Flynn. Their favorite pastime at the moment is to play at being merchants using shells instead of money.
