- "D'arqest... The one who tried to call forth the night with an unholy ritual." —Temenos Mistral
The Archmage D'arqest is a historic figure in Octopath Traveler II. This ancient sorcerer summoned the power of the Shadow, spawning ills that still plague Solistia several hundred years after his death.
History[]
(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...) The following section contains potential story spoilers! |
D'arqest is the grandfather of Claude, great-grandfather to Throné Anguis, and the distant ancestor to those with the corrupted blood of Clan Ku. His achievements are numerous, spanning multiple continents and various ages.
The archmage once visited the Kal people and called forth “the night," summoning hordes of dark beasts. A hero named Kal opposed him, and drove him away with the power of the Sacred Flame. During the chaos, D'arqest cursed the greedy humans who battled around him, transforming them into Beastlings.
Between 800 and 400 years ago, D'arqest also created a geological feature known as the Pit of D'arqest. This pit's staggering immensity led scholars to theorize that only the One True Magic could be harnessed to create such a rift, causing a spike of interest in the adjacent Great Wall.
D'arqest's body is interred in the furthest point of the Wildlands, in the Duskruin Shrine east of Gravell. The Duskruin Shrine currently serves as a temple of the Moonshade Order, and researchers' investigation into the ruins has afflicted Gravell with a series of plagues and misfortunes.
Trivia[]
- D'arqest's name is a play on the word "darkest."
- Harvey may be related to D'arqest, as he addresses the Archmage's corpse with the intonation, "O great ancestor!"
- D'arqest may have been royalty, given that his grandson Claude is implied to be a prince of an ancient kingdom.
