- "Clan Mei shall be the spear which leads the charge into the future. And it shall be wielded by the desert's future rulers." —Jin Mei
Clan Mei pledging allegiance to Ku
Clan Mei (メイ家, Mei-jie) is a small tribe of warriors sworn to the service of Ku. The clan holds an outpost in Stormhail, which was created as a base from which Ku could endeavor to conquer the eastern continent. After the death of its former leader, Jin Mei, leadership of the clan passed into the hands of his sister Rai Mei.
History[]
Under Jin Mei's leadership, Clan Mei swore its allegiance to Ku in the hopes of securing its safety and establishing a better future. However, war soon broke out and Clan Mei was once again called to Ku's aid. General Mugen secretly commanded Jin to assassinate Hikari, an attempt that failed but resulted in the deaths of Jin and Hikari's mother Kura. Rai Mei took up the clan's leadership after her brother's death.
Some time later, King Jigo sent Clan Mei to establish an outpost on the eastern continent. The clan took up power in Castle Mei and brokered peace between the land's warring tribes, earning respect among Stormhail's townspeople and with the Order of the Sacred Flame. Since then, Clan Mei has entered a bitter power struggle against the members of the Sacred Guard, who ruled the city prior to the clan's arrival.
As revealed in Hikari's Chapter 4, Rai Mei has continued to ally her clan with Mugen, remaining loyal to the king of Ku despite the bloodshed on the horizon. She endeavors to execute Hikari to curry Mugen's favor and protect her people from his wrath, but after Hikari escapes from her clutches and chooses to spare her, she decides to pledge her clan to his cause.
Clan Mei returns to Ku on Hikari's side, fighting to oust Mugen from the throne and raise Hikari to secure a future of peace.
