City of Gold is a side story in Octopath Traveler. The tale begins by speaking to the Passionate Reader in the library in Atlasdam Palace Gate in Atlasdam.

Resolution[]

The side story may be resolved using one of two methods:

Inquire / Scrutinize[]

Travel to Marsalim. Successfully use the Inquire or Scrutinize path action to glean the knowledge City of Gold from the Scholarly Youth (  Min Lvl: 40 /  Base Rate: 60% ) at the top of the east staircase off the main plaza.
The tale ends once City of Gold is shared with the Passionate Reader.
"Intrigued by the utopian city of gold, the youth continued reading as much as possible of the romantic legend."

Guide / Allure[]

Travel to West Grandport Coast. Successfully use the Guide or Allure path action on the Best-selling Author (  Min Lvl: 15 /  Base: 35% ) along the path to the northwest.
The tale ends once the Best-selling Author is brought to the Passionate Reader.
"Moved deeply by the tragic tale of the City of Gold as told by the author, the bookworm resolved to devour yet more ancient tales."

  • Know-it-all's Father offers a hint for the Inquire/Scrutinize path for the side story, nothing that his son, a scholar, mutters "about a city made of gold."
