- "Someone... Someone has to inflict judgement upon you humans." —Ceraphina
Ceraphina is a character in Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent. She initially appears as a minor NPC in the Master of Power, but is later revealed to be the one behind the events of said path (and indirectly the Master of Fame one) and becomes the main antagonist of the Bestower of Fame one.
Profile[]
Appearence[]
Ceraphina is a young woman with long silver hair. During her time as Phina, she wore a cleric outfit of the Flamesgrace Church, but switched to a more solemn white robe when revealing her true identity.
Personality[]
Because of her grandfather's death, Ceraphina is a bitter and misantropic person obsessed with punishing humanity, a goal she's spent centuries to achieve. However, she manages to change her mind a bit after confronting the Chosen One, admitting there can be some good in humans after all.
Story[]
She was the granddaughter of the Sage Solomon. She witnessed the execution of her grandfather when she was a child, causing her to gain a deep hatred towards people. At some point she met Lyblac, who granted her semi-immortality along with the Warrior, Apothecary and the Thief rings. She would bestow the last one on Simeon.
When Orsterra was facing the Southern Tribes menace, she bestowed the Warrior's Ring on a young Tytos.[1] As "Phina", she infiltrated into the Church of Flamesgrace to closely monitor the actions of both the Church and the Scarlet Wing Commander.
Following Tytos' demise, Ceraphina took control of the remains of the Scarlet Wings loyal to Tytos and reformed them into the Black Scarlet cult, working for her to achieve godhood through a ritual once performed by a saint named Odypus who, in his greed, tried to take control of the First Flame and ended up burned by the Accurst Flame resulting from said attempt. That was because he lacked the Divine Rings and the Divine Blood from the Crossford family line, which Ceraphina managed to acquire both through the Apothecary Ring and a cleric named Rinyuu, an illegitimate child of Graham Crossford.
Despite the Chosen One, Sazantos and the Knights Ardante pursuing her, Ceraphina managed to complete the ritual and take control of the Accursed Flame, as well as a new angelic form thanks to her Divine Ring. However, the ritual also revived Lyblac, who had secretly possessed her body following her brutal defeat against Redeye. Lyblac mocked Ceraphina for thinking she was worthy of passing judgement on humanity, claiming only Galdera had the right to do so. After Lyblac's defeat at the hands of the Chosen One and Sazantos, Ceraphina admitted that watching the Chosen One's actions helped her regain a bit of faith in humanity. After that, she succumbed to her injuries.

Etymology[]
Her name alludes to a seraph, a kind of heavenly existence featured in Abrahamic religions that is usually depicted as a multi-winged being.
Trivia[]
- In the conclusion of the final clash between Ceraphina and the Knights Ardante, while the misanthrope Ceraphina ends acknowledging there may be some goodwill inside the people, Flameguard Sazantos concludes mankind is rotten beyond salvation.
- In that sense, she is indirectly responsable for the events leading to the Bestower of All storyline as well.
- Hirohito Suzuki about Ceraphina's ring form: "Ceraphina begins her battle with a transformed body. She has wings and a halo because she has gained a portion of the power of the gods, and also follows the design pattern of the bosses from the later Domain of the Gods arc".[2]
- Ceraphina is the only playable apothecary so far who doesn't have axe skills. Even if she must be equipped with axe weapons, her damage set is entirely elemental, consisting in light and dark skills.
- She is also the only traveler so far who doesn't have a physical skill as a default attack.
