Cave of Rhiyo is a location in Octopath Traveler. This small cave, located to the east of Clearbrook, serves as the dungeon in Alfyn's Chapter 1.
Description[]
Cave of Rhiyo is a viper-infested grotto flooded with shallow green water beneath elevated cliffs. At one point a dilapidated wooden bridge spans the water, reinforcing the fact that this is a known but little-visited cave from which the citizens of the neighboring Clearbrook know well to stay away.
At the heart of the cave lies its boss room, where pale shafts of sunlight reach down through the stalagmites to illuminate the gorgeous blue waterblooms blanketing the floor. These flowers are functional as well as beautiful, and Alfyn testifies that they make a "good bitters."
Story[]
One day Nina and her friend Lily travel to the Cave of Rhiyo to pick waterblooms for Nina's brother Zeph. However, the two are attacked by a Blotted Viper which bites Nina in the leg and poisons her. The two manage to escape the cave but Nina falls deathly ill. After learning what bit her Alfyn Greengrass, Zeph's friend and fellow apothecary, travels to the cave in order to collect the viper's venom to make an antidote. Alfyn defeats the Blotted Viper and takes some its venom while it is unconscious before returning to Clearbrook to prepare the antidote.

- The Cave of Rhiyo has the highest average JP yield from random encounters of any inner ring area when at the highest possible Danger Level, excluding optional dungeons.
- The cave’s name likely comes from "Rio," the word for river in Spanish and Portuguese.
- According to Lily, a snake "came out of the bushes" and bit Nina in the Cave of Rhiyo. The in-game cave does not contain any bushes, however, and its waterblooms grow too low to the ground to conceal the Blotted Viper's giant sprite.
