No, these are not random letters- these are the names of the Octopath Travelers written vertically. The top spells out 'OCTOPATH' and that is how the regions are arranged. Think about each traveler's region- in the traveler order listed above, the regions go clockwise in a circle. Now, do you know this isn't a junk post? Comment down below if you knew this!
Now, this may seem odd, but let me explain. Each of the bosses the Travelers fight follow a theme. The over-arching themes of the bosses really elevate the game's design. This if for people who want to view the game in a different light or for people who don't fully understand. I'll list a few I know well, but if any of you have ideas to add on or corrections to some of mine, go right ahead.
Cyrus's theme is pretty clearly, him dealing with corrupt Scholars. Cyrus is a good example of a great scholar, one who wants to share his knowledge and wanting people to be even smarte than him. However, he fights against those who have opposing or unethical Ideals. Russell is an example of a scholar who uses valuable learning materials in order to mak…
hey! I just wanted to leave a guide for anyone who wants to help add pages to the wiki. I've been meaning to do more work on my own but I've gotten really caught up in my responsibilities. hopefully this will be useful to refer to.
note: if you're reading this you're more than likely on desktop, but in case you want to edit on mobile, I'd suggest accessing the wiki through your browser and scrolling all the way down until you see "view full site." that will give you the desktop version of the site which is much more straightforward with the editing process.
this is optional but my favored method of editing articles because you can preview the article the same way as with the new editor, but more easily identify and revise sources of errors. t…
OK so me and my sister have this thing in Octopath that when we play, she BARELEY uses physical attacks and for me It's vice versa (other than Holy Light/Luminessence and Analize if it counts) unless it's for a break(shield).
So do you guys use more magical or physical? I'm curious is all.

The answer lays in the nitty gritty details, and is a combination of many things. Her base stats, the nature of physical attacks in general, the timing of attacks, and the functionality of the break system. I'd recommend keeping Winnehild's wiki page open for clarity. Balogar , Steorra , and Dreisang will also be referenced. This will basically be a lecture about boss design so bear with me.
To start, there's the obvious thing to point out. Winnehild has the highest HP out of all of the 4 secret bosses, and is the only one to break the 200k mark. Being the Warbringer, she is also themed around all things physical, having the highest physical strength and defense. Her break sheilds are also the most numbers, capping out at 12. While Steorra…
Time for more specific issues, and there's quite a few to go through, so might as well just start.
First off, the scholar class. There's no doubts about it, it's the most powerful early class in the game. Why? Well it's because of the nature of magic in the game. Relative to physical attacks, it never misses, it trades no damage effectiveness, and all the scholar magic targets all foes. And what does it trade off? It does cost SP, and can't be boosted to hit multiple times. But that's it, and those two are hardly tradeoffs.
For one, the Theif class can act as an SP supplier. Alfyn can also be an effective SP supplier with plum essences if available. For two, the merchant class grants access to the SP saver skill, cutting down the SP cost sig…
I come across this problem far too often in my subsequent playthroughs. My use of items increases, my use of magic increases, the importance of gear decreases, and bosses that were once seemingly unbeatable are now a joke. So much so that I can be 15 levels lower and still stand a good chance.
As to why this is possible, it's due to a lot of problems, some general and some very specific. To start with the most general of problems, it's due to the leveling system.
I get that leveling systems are an RPG tradition, but that doesn't mean they're the only way the games should be made. In fact it's what turns me away from a ton of them. It would be far less restrictive on the game designers to have to design around a leveling system, and far more …
There's no end to Alfyn getting the shaft when it comes to new players not willing to learn about Concoct, or even somewhat experienced players that have tried it and say they don't like it because it does almost no damage.
I don't really mind people thinking that, that's perfectly fine, but it does make me reflect on the overall game design of Octopath, and made me realize there was a massive hole left by Square that should have been filled. It's about the function of the elements of combat.
There's somewhat of a lack of teaching, that if done in a hypothetical sequel, could really add to the experience. Now to be fair, they did actually do this right when it came to H'aanit, by having the player use her beasts in combat for the first few f…
One thing that I have noticed throughout my play through of Octopath Traveler was that I feel like most of the encounters can be heavily abused when there is a certain combination of characters no matter the play style of the player. The reason why I feel this is because my entire play through I only relied on three characters the entire time which became abundantly clear that the entire game could be abused through elemental attacks. For my place through I had Ophelia with a sub job as a scholar and I had Cyrus as a cleric, this caused many opportunities where I could abused many different types of magic to break enemies consistently. The third character I had which made this kind of broken innocence was using Alfyn's ability to concoct p…
