- "The black market is where you need to go for rare artifacts and other mysterious items. I won't deny that I'm curious to see what such a secretive marketplace is like, as well." —Tavern Patron in Wellspring
Black Market is a dungeon found in the Sunlands in Octopath Traveler and the dungeon of Therion's third chapter. Here, Therion chases down the bandits who stole the emerald dragonstone. He ends up taking on Gareth, one of Darius' lackeys, but Darius escapes with the dragonstone.
Depending on a choice the player makes, the Black Market may or may not become the crime scene where the previous holder of the emerald dragonstone is killed.
Description[]
Black Market is a desert cavern that combines a dry, dusty atmosphere with cascades of sparkling golden sand. Crates, boxes, sacks, pots, carpets, and lanterns fill the front of the cave, where masked customers may peruse illicit wares in privacy.

Trivia[]
- If, during Therion's Chapter 3, the player attempts to take the upper path through the Black Market beyond the bandits' event battle, they will stopped with the thought bubble, "(I'll never catch up if I go the same way he did. I need to find a shortcut...)."
- The Black Market is the only dungeon to contain domesticated animals: a crate of roosters for sale.
- A trio of black market merchants can be found inside of a guarded house in Wellspring.
- The red-dressed merchant is obsessed with defeating his business rivaled, and will yell upon Path Action failure, "Are you working with my business rival?" According to his biography, he doesn't put much stock in his own business acumen, but fortunately Wellspring's black market venue is frequented mostly by customers who lack discernment.
- Another of these merchants is the black market's founder. His fondness for certain goods that others would refuse to sell, even if they weren't officially contraband, moved him to create a place where such items could be traded and appreciated by like-minded individuals. (He possesses the Memorial Necklace which belonged to Harald, a family heirloom of a famous lord's wife.) Given the founder's age of 32 years, Wellspring's black market is likely a recent establishment.
- The third merchant claims to have quite a reputation, though most of his wares have some flaw or imperfection. He refuses to divulge any information about their origins, presumably because they are stolen, and carries a Forbidden Axe.
