Etymology[]
"Astor" (also spelled "Aster") is a name of Greek origin meaning “star.” Closely associated with this name is the aster flower, which bears a star-like shape. Used as a French or German surname, "Astor" also means "hawk." These symbols likely reflect Astor's high standing among the citizens of Orsterra, with his keen eye for treasure and wealth surpassing that of all other merchants.
The surname "Wyndham" is derived from an English name, meaning "Wyman's hamlet" or "hamlet near the winding way."
Trivia[]
- According to one NPC, Astor Wyndham has enough money to buy himself a small country.
- Cyrus mentions that the Wyndhams are patrons of the arts and generous benefactors to the world of scholarship. In addition, they can trace their family line to the founding days of an ancient kingdom.
- The Wyndhams are legendary among merchants as well. Tressa remarks on her parents' saying: "Start rubbing your hands when a Wyndham comes calling."
