Armsmaster is an advanced job introduced in Octopath Traveler II.
Much like the Warmaster from Octopath Traveler, Armsmaster allows any traveler who uses this class access to every weapon type in the game, making the Armsmaster heavily emphasize physical attacks. Unlike the Warmaster, most of the skills of the Armsmaster gives a bonus effect depending on certain conditions unique to the skill. However, these skills are inaccessible unless the person with the Armsmaster job equips their respective weapons.
Unlike most other jobs, no JP are required to learn any of the skills. Instead, each skill is unlocked when the respective divine weapon is restored and automatically learned by all party members, including the support abilities.
Proof Location[]
To obtain the Proof of the Armsmaster that unlocks the Armsmaster Job, the travelers must first travel to Gravell in the Wildlands. Next to the large forge is a house whose entrance is blocked by a Debt Collector.
Knock the Debt Collector unconscious and enter the house. Speak to the Retired Blacksmith within to begin the side story: In Search of the Divine Weapons.
Bring any of the six Rusty Weapons to the Retired Blacksmith. The blacksmith will introduce himself as Porta and restore the weapon to its divine state before giving the travelers the Proof of the Armsmaster.
Skills[]
To unlock additional Armsmaster skills, the associated rusty weapon must be found and give to Porta to be restored.
Rusty Weapon | Divine Weapon | Associated Skill | Location |
---|---|---|---|
Rusty Sword | Conqueror's Sword | Conqueror's Sword: Cosmic Roar | Complete side story: The Sword in the Stone |
Rusty Polearm | Warlord's Spear | Warlord's Spear: Giant Swing | Chest: Timberain Castle: Town Square (requires knocking townsperson Unconscious) |
Rusty Dagger | Dancer's Blade | Dancer's Blade: Mischievous Step | Chest: Shipwreck of the Empress (requires Grand Terry) |

Strategies[]
- Since Hikari's Elemental Attack is lower than any other character's, he works well with this weapon-based secondary job. He'll be able to attack all enemies with any weapon thanks to his EX Skill "Ultimate Stance", and since he's carrying every weapon type it will allow him to do more damage with every weapon-based Challenge Skill he comes across.
- Ochette works very well as an Armsmaster, especially in the late game when she has access to more powerful monsters like the Battle-Worn Shark. The Warlord's Spear in particular can give her the BP she needs to repeatedly use the aforementioned monsters (along with the upgraded versions of Acta and Akalā/Mahina) for massive damage output.
- Temenos's latent power causes Sixfold Strike to break 6 shields, and his large SP pool & Mystical Staff skill help him have enough SP to repeatedly use the expensive Armsmaster skills.
- Osvald can use all weapons due to this job, which gives him the opportunity to equip multiple weapons that increase damage for specific type of spells (e.g. fire-based). Since these multipliers stack, this increases his damage output significantly.
- Castti may arguably be the character who benefits the most from this advanced job. As potent as her healing can be, it acts as a double - edged sword. Strong heals create more turns where they're not needed and she's expected to deal damage or break shields - two things she is absolutely terrible at. Armsmaster remedies both and then some, giving her ample damage and shield shredding ability. On the flip side Apothecary's high SP sustain and overall toughness greatly synergize with this advanced job.
- Throné, after Castti, would also appreciate reclassing into this advanced job as, unlike the rest of the cast who can either call upon befriended/hired/allured/guided companions into battle (Ochette, Partitio, Agnea, and Temenos respectively), can exclusively capture and sicc various monsters on foes or learn various techniques from foes after duels (Ochette and Hikari respectively), exclusively concoct various harmful substances or cast an array of different magical elements (Castti and Osvald respectively), use Hired Help by default (Partitio), or have a skill or Latent Powers that can reduce an enemy's shield points regardless (Ochette's Beastly Howl, Osvald's One True Magic, Agnea's Ruinous Kick, or Temenos's Judgement), Throné's base kit leaves her as the least potentially able to exploit various weaknesses and breaking shield points without acquiring a secondary job, and her SP is among the lowest which makes using HP Thief or either of her darkness-aligned spells costly over time when used repeatedly (similar to Ochette and Hikari whose physical attack stats in combination with their own Latent Powers make up for the low SP). The increased amount of weapons allows her to catch up to the potential weakness-exploiting prowess the rest of the cast has. In addition to this, her Latent Power - Leave No Trace, allows her to use a powerful Divine Skill-lite attack twice in a single turn through almost any of the Armsmaster's skills with the appropriate weapons equipped, even including Conqueror's Sword: Cosmic Roar which becomes stronger the earlier it is initiated in a turn which compliments Throné's high speed stat which lets her more often than not attack first behind Agnea.
Trivia[]
- Armsmaster is the only job that does not have a Divine Skill.
- In yore, the gods bestowed Solistia with 6 special weapons to protect them from evil: the Conquerer's Sword, the Warlord's Spear, the Dancer's Blade, the Lionheart's Axe, the Hunter's Bow, and the Spiritlord's Staff. However, greed and ambition corrupted the weapons' human armsmasters, and so these divine weapons were lost to time.
