Arcanist is an advanced job introduced in Octopath Traveler II.
The Arcanist has the ability to spread the effect of self-only spells to the rest of the party, similar to the Runelord's skill Transfer Rune. However, the job takes a more supportive role compared to the Runelord as it focuses on sharing buffs and keeping the enemy enfeebled with debuffs.
Proof Location[]
To obtain the Proof of the Arcanist that unlocks the Arcanist job, the travelers must first acquire the Grand Terry from Partitio's The Scent of Commerce: Tropu'hopu.
Travel to the whirlpool in between Toto'haha and the Brightlands to confront the Scourge of the Sea that lies within. Once it has been defeated and the path is clear, sail to The Lost Isle that lies south of Clockbank.
The island is comprised primarily of a large labyrinth, which the travelers may ignore. Travel west at the sign along an invisible road (the invisible road becomes slightly more visible if the party traverses the area at night) to a platform with the Arcanist Descendant.
Speak to the Arcanist Descendant to receive the Proof of the Arcanist. The Arcanist Descendant will then disappear.

Strategies[]
- Osvald V. Vanstein is arguably the best user of the Arcanist class for purely offensive purposes. Arcanist gives Osvald, who already has access to fire, ice and lightning, two more elements, light and darkness. With Osvald's Latent Power, he can amplify the power of all five of his elemental attacks, and the Scholar's Divine Skill allows him to use these spells three times at once. All of this combined makes Osvald a force to be reckoned with while using this job. That said, Osvald isn't the best choice if the player wants to use the Arcanist's utility skills rather than its damage output.
- Hikari can make good use out of Seal of Diffusion through both Warrior's innate skills, which are all self buffing abilities, as well as a vast amount of unique buffs he can learn through his challenge path action. His latent power can also allow him to take an additional action at the end of a turn, letting him still be able to put out high bursts of damage when necessary without missing the opportunity to buff or heal his allies.
- If using the Arcanist class for utility, Partitio is a great choice thanks to his Rest and Sidestep abilities, as well as his latent power allowing him large amounts of BP to spend. Using Seal of Diffusion with Sidestep and Reflective Barrier can let the whole party avoid just about anything the enemy throws at them while reflecting magic damage back at the attackers. Seal of Diffusion also allows Partitio to use Rest to restore HP and SP to the party. Additionally, thanks to the extra BP Partitio gets from his latent power, he can use Seal of Eternity far more frequently than other party members. Coupling this with Invigorate and Inspire from the Dancer class allows Partitio to also restore the party's latent power gauges, including his own, making it much easier for him to spam fully Boosted abilities and for the rest of the party to use their latent powers.
- Throné can be a reasonable choice for the Arcanist class with her latent power, allowing her to quickly use Seal of Diffusion with Reflective Barrier or Seal of Immortality in a pinch. She can also use Seal of Diffusion with Swift Step, increasing the entire party's speed. Outside of this, however, Throné doesn't get that much use out of the Arcanist class, as she falls behind Osvald and Temenos in magic damage output.
- Ochette doesn't get much use out of the Arcanist class outside of her Indomitable Beast EX skill, as she isn't nearly as magically-inclined as Osvald or Temenos, nor does she have any other personal abilities that work with Seal of Diffusion.
- While not directly as the class, Castti however gets the most benefit out of Seal of Eternity when used after Sealticge's Seduction is applied. This will guarantee that she will be able to use Remedy with no real restriction, to throw out Augment after Augment during any fight.
