"There's nothing more I can do..." —Traveler, after burying the village's dead

The Abandoned Village (formerly known as Healeaks) is a town in Octopath Traveler II. Once thriving, this city has since been reduced to an empty ruin, which serves as the setting for Castti's Chapter 3.

Story[]

(I don't think this is where I should be going at the moment...)
The following section contains potential story spoilers!

During her Chapter 3, Castti comes to the Abandoned Village to meet Malaya. By inquiring with Malaya, she unlocks her memories, sending the player into a series of playable flashback sequences. The first takes place two years ago, when Healeaks was the home of Eir’s Apothecaries (a six-person team consisting of Castti, Malaya, brothers Andy and Randy, Elma, and a promising young man named Trousseau. Their success in administering to Healeaks had made them quite popular in town.

During this playable flashback, a young girl named Sally falls ill, despite the curative efforts of Trousseau and her brother Temm. The team deduces that the cure for her ailment requires a santanejo blossom, found only at the summit of Mount Liphia. Although the other apothecaries fear the monsters that roam the mountain, Castti and Trousseau trek to the top of Mount Liphia to retrieve the blossoms, and with these successfully heal Sally.

After experiencing this flashback, Castti speaks again to Malaya and enters another flashback sequence. This time, Castti and her crew return to Healeaks only to find that Sally and Temm have been found dead near the mountains by the villagers. Trousseau is nowhere to be seen, but a mysterious purple rain has descended upon the town. One by one, the residents begin to die despite the apothecaries' best efforts. Castti then notices strange smoke rising from Mount Liphia's summit, which she identifies as the source of the poison. She, Randy, Andy, and Malaya ascend the peak to investigate, leaving Elma behind.

Upon reaching the peak, the group find Trousseau, now dressed in a robe and a mask. He reveals that he killed Sally and Temm in order to lure the townspeople out into the rain, where his poison would kill them, and speaks of a man who "opened [his] eyes" to the belief that because life is full of needless suffering, death is the ultimate salvation. As the confrontation continues, Castti begins to succumb to the poison's effects. Breaking down into laughter, Trousseau departs the mountain, but not before revealing that he has planned another attack at the coronation in Timberain.

Andy and Randy sacrifice their lives to douse the fire, preventing the poison rain from spreading further. Malaya returns to the village with Castti, treating her with snowdrop blossoms as she begins to succumb to the poison. Upon returning to Healeaks, Malaya discovers that Elma had sacrificed her life to protect the team's horse, Jeyah. Malaya places Castti on Jeyah's back and the two ride to the docks, where Malaya sets Castti adrift in the skiff, believing that Castti is the only person who can devise a cure for Trousseau's poison.

Etymology[]

"Healeaks," is comprised of "heal" + "leaks," referring both to healing work of the Eir's Apothecaries centered there and the toxin rain that seeped throughout the town (ironically and tragically, one of the villagers complained of a leaky roof before the deadly rainfall). Now that the town has been abandoned, its name seems to have been lost and forgotten.

Trivia[]

  • During a flashback in Castti's third chapter, Cropdale's town theme plays in place of "Abandoned City."
  • Castti's first flashback in Healeaks is locked to day, whereas the second takes place at night.
  • The old carpenter who used to live in Healeaks was named Lind, and he helped construct the New Delsta: Theater.
  • Healeak's name is a combination of "heal" and "leaks," likely referring to the healing work of Eir's Apothecaries as well as the toxin rain that seeped throughout the town.
  • A traveling old man was the first person who found the Abandoned Village devastated. He took it upon himself to bury and pray for all of the dead villagers, a task which took him more than ten days.
  • Despite the village being abandoned, lights can still be seen glowing in its windmills at night from the Path to Mount Liphia and the summit of Mount Liphia.
